How to organise your Gemini chats
Updated 23 October 2026
Gemini's chat list grows fast and has no folders. Here's what Google gives you for keeping it tidy, and what to do when you use more than one AI.
What Gemini has built in
- Pins. Open a chat's menu and choose Pin to keep it at the top of your list.
- Notebooks. Google added notebooks to the Gemini app in April 2026: spaces that hold related chats and source files, with their own instructions. They're good for one project with documents attached.
- Search. You can search your chats, but you get a flat list without filters.
What's missing for day-to-day organising: nested folders, tags, and anything that spans more than Gemini. If you also use ChatGPT or Claude, your work on one topic ends up split across three apps with three different ways to organise it.

TidyTalk keeps a single library for all three, on your computer:
- Folders and subfolders that hold chats from any app. Drag chats onto them in the side panel.
- Tags and pins across apps.
- Saved answers: point at a Gemini answer and press Save, or select a passage, and keep it with a note.
- Rules (Pro): "chats mentioning invoice go to Finance" files new chats as they arrive.
- Search every message across the three apps, opening at the exact spot.
TidyTalk only reads Gemini. It never moves, renames or deletes anything on Google's side, so your notebooks and pins stay exactly as they are, and you can use both.
A simple system that lasts
- Make folders for the few areas you actually return to: a project, a client, a course. Five is plenty to start (the free plan's limit).
- Pin only what you use weekly.
- When an answer is worth keeping, save that answer, not the whole chat.
- Once a week, file what's unfiled. Most chats never need a folder; search finds them.
