Privacy policy
Last updated 23 October 2026
TidyTalk is a browser extension that lets you search and organise your ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini conversations, together with a small website and server for accounts and payments. This policy explains what TidyTalk handles and why. "We" and "us" mean TidyTalk, based in India. Questions: write to us from the support page.
Short version: your conversations are read with your own sign-in and stored only in your browser. We never receive, store, sell or train on them.
Data that stays in your browser
To make your chats searchable, the extension reads them from chatgpt.com, claude.ai and gemini.google.com using the session you are already signed in with, in the tabs you have open. It stores the following on your computer, in the extension's own browser storage:
- Your conversations: titles, messages, dates and links
- The search index built from them
- Folders, tags, pins, saved prompts and rules you create
- If you turn on search by meaning (Pro): a language model and the numeric "meaning" vectors it makes from your chats
- Settings, and sync progress per site
Search by meaning runs entirely on your computer. The first time you turn it on, the extension downloads the model (about 23 MB) from Hugging Face (huggingface.co). That download is an ordinary file request: Hugging Face sees your IP address, as with any website, and nothing about your chats is sent.
None of this is sent to us or to anyone else. It is removed when you uninstall the extension. If you import a ChatGPT or Claude data export, the file is read on your computer and not uploaded.
Data we receive
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your email address and an account id (and, if you continue with Google, the name and picture Google shares, which we don't use) | Only if you sign in from the Plan tab | To link your purchase to you and send sign-in links |
| Your subscription: plan, status, renewal date, the payment provider's customer and subscription ids | When you buy, renew or cancel Pro | To turn Pro on and off |
| Your synced library: folders, tags, prompts, rules, and which folder, tags and pin each chat has, encrypted in your browser with a passphrase only you know; plus when each item changed | Only if you turn on sync (Pro) | To give you the same library on each computer. We can't read it, and chat text is never included |
| Support messages: your message, topic, the email you give, the extension version, and a short fingerprint of your IP address that changes daily | When you send one from the support page or the extension | To answer you; the fingerprint only limits spam |
| Anonymous request counts, for example "ChatGPT chat list: 40 succeeded, 2 failed with an unexpected response", with the date and extension version | Once a day, unless you turn it off on the Status tab | To notice quickly when ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini change something that breaks TidyTalk |
Request counts contain no chat content, titles, ids, links, email or account details, and are not linked to you. Our website does not use analytics or advertising cookies.
Payments
Payments are handled by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record: it collects your card or UPI details, charges you, and handles taxes and invoices. We never see your full payment details. Dodo Payments' own privacy policy applies to the data you give them at checkout.
Who processes data for us
- Supabase: our database, sign-in and server functions, hosted in Mumbai, India
- Dodo Payments: checkout, subscriptions and invoices
- Our email provider: delivers sign-in emails
- Google: only if you choose "Continue with Google" to sign in
- Hugging Face: serves the search-by-meaning model download; receives no account or chat data
- Vercel: hosts this website
We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Chrome Web Store user data
TidyTalk's use of information received from Chrome extension APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Conversation data is used only to provide search and organisation to you, inside your browser. It is not transferred to us or third parties, not used for advertising, not used to determine creditworthiness, and not read by people.
How long we keep data
- Account and subscription records: while your account exists, then as long as tax and accounting law requires
- Anonymous request counts: up to 13 months
- Synced library: until you erase it (Plan tab → "Erase synced copy") or ask us to delete your account
- Support messages: up to 24 months after we've answered
- Sign-in records kept by our sign-in provider: as long as your account exists
Your choices and rights
- Delete local data any time by removing the extension, or clear a site by signing out of it and reinstalling.
- Turn off anonymous request counts on the Status tab.
- Turn off sync, or erase the synced copy from our server, in the Plan tab.
- Ask us to access, correct or delete your account data by sending a message from our support page (topic "Privacy or my data"). We reply within 30 days.
Depending on where you live, laws such as India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act or the GDPR may give you further rights, including complaining to your data protection authority.
Security
Data sent to our server travels over HTTPS. Account and subscription tables can only be read by our server functions. Your conversations are protected by your computer's and browser's own security, since they never leave it.
Children
TidyTalk is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We will update the date above when this policy changes, and mention significant changes in the extension.
